The importance of a base network and building off of it

I came to philly for school, now two years in I've been blessed with an internship of sorts at the noizetrip studio (association with larry gold's place) where they have given me a place where i can work, meet upcoming artists from around the city, build relationships and create a networking base from which all involved can grow and thrive.

My question is how important was it for you to have relationships with artists around you, opportunities to collaborate, and people to bounce ideas off of, during your career? What sort of opportunities did it open up for you? Especially in the early stages.

Thanks

ive always been really bad at that. i need to get better at "networking". i came up a little differently, just grinding it out on my own, unfortunately. having a network wouldve been really nice.
