What's the difference from being with a major vs independent label?

Note: Marketing/Promoting is Key (How Much A Major Label's Worth isn't the key)


Independent vs Major Labels

If an artist sells 10,000-20,000 cd's independently, would it add up to the amount an major artist will make with a major label?

In this day and age I don't see a reason to sign any kind of record label deal when an artist can

- 1. Brand himself/herself online
- 2. Keep all of their profits without owing anybody
- 3. Have 100% creative freedom to make the music you want
- 4. Distribute your music yourself easily online


And by the way record labels are not focusing on Cd-sales. Their focusing more on itunes/digital mp3 sales.
 
The music industry is a whole lot bigger than just a few mainstream companies. I hope you realize that. You're talking about a very small fraction when you list those companies
