Is Soundclick still a good site to sell beats?

I noticed a lot of ppl on this forum putting down producers who sell beats on Soundclick. Also a lot of people are also talking about how Soundclick is dead. I have been making beats since 2008, and I really want to get into the buisness side of things, and making money off my productions, but I want to have a place to host my beats.

I've been looking into getting a soundclick page, and I see nothing wrong with it. It has a nice chart system, fan interactions, widgets, etc.

What is so bad with Soundclick?

and what are the alternative to soundclick, that would generate the same amount of hits?

myflashstore dot net

it has a lil widget where you can sell your beats instantly. and a facebook app where u can sell on your page.

of course i have this on my soundclick too tho

There's nothing wrong with Soundclick. It still is the best place to sell and display your beats online.

Nothing wrong with hosting your beats there, people just talk down on the selling of beats there, but who cares man do what you feel is best for you! We can have opinions all we want, but our opinions ain't paying your light bill are they?

My opinion just may help you pay your light bill, and other bills..:)

The day you start worrying about what other "producers" say is the day you should hock your gear on Craigslist.

How can Soundclick be dead if the site is still up... just like myspace... people left their myspace pages alone because something else popped up.

The maintainence on these pages takes less than 20 minutes a week... get a Soundclick page.

I used to be dubious about Soundlclick for years... not because of the site or anything but because I thought if i sold leases on Soundclick then i wouldnt be taken serious by the major artists and it would hinder my chances of getting major placements (which was my major goal and still is)..

But one day i woke up and realized... im shooting myself in the foot coz im not utilizing all the ways of making money from my beats... so what if im selling leases on soundclick.. the major artists dont give a shit... if your musics hot then its hot and they will want it.. no matter if your selling leases on Soundclick or not!

Having your fingers in as many pies as possible is the way to make the most money from your beats!

I can tell you first hand, there are producers on soundclick making $6000 + on that site alone! It's all about marketing bro. You can make a living off of soundclick with the right business mindset and work ethic.

The "future" major artists could possibly be people that are scouring Soundclick now... not saying that they will but I don't think they're buying / downloading beats for nothing. Maybe 75% of them are... but the other 25% might just be budget minded.

I say get on there and get in the way if you can... doesn't hurt. Why wouldn't somebody have a page?

I wouldn't care about how I'm perceived as long as my music and page were up to snuff. What can you say bad about it? It's no different than having a myspace or facebook page imo and it's actually geared towards music. What's the difference between having a myspace page and a Soundclick page? both have ads, both have a music player, both have charts... and you can delete your page at any time if you're worried about something.

... or you can make up a page under a name that has nothing to do with your "REAL" name... then you won't be embarrassed. It's the internet... nobody is who they say they are, they're who they want you to think they are.

Do artists still flock there for beats tho like back in the day

yes, mainly because it's one of the few spots where they can download free original instrumentals and also lease tracks at low rates... there's no other place on the net like soundclick.

only thing wrong with soundclick is the beatjackers and copycats. and ive heard its kinda hard to get high in the charts. but idk

People are not knocking Soundclick per se, they are knocking "producahs" who approach Soundclick as being THE music industry or kinda like a casino to get rich quick.

The majors don't care about anything, no one is NOT going to deal with you because you have a SC. If they WANT you, and think your work will benefit them, they'll work with you. Make them have dollar sings in their eyes, and the rest won't matter anymore.

People used to say that using FL is not going to be respected by Majors, how many FL top songs did we have already? Way to many to count. 80% of Drake's "beats" alone are made in FL.

I think numbers are impressive anywhere... if they aren't fake.

I say that because remember how they wanted artists to have "a following" to prove that people are into them....

I think Soundclick could be that for a producer... it wouldn't impress somebody at a major probably but an artist on the same playing field might think that people like the guy therefore... he should mess with him for beats.

Underground popularity contest sorta...

Everybody starts somewhere.... it's like an artist not auditioning for American Idol because "it's just a talent show"...

Who are these people leasing these beats? I hear producers are making GOOD money off it, but whos leasing ALL these tracks consistantly?

^Regular people around the world, looking for "backing tracks" for their vocals.

If it was someone with a bit of a bigger status, he'd probably exceed the 2000 distribution limit and buy an exclusive instead.

yeah I agree... you need to promote your stuff like crazy to get high in the charts, and you need to have free downloads and buy vip account... that kinda sucks, but on the other hand, if you're really motivated and work hard, you'll get higher and (if your stuff is good) people will start remembering your name

i'm one of those people leasing on a regular basis and i would assume that many of the people on the charts are also doing quite well.

On a side note, I don't want to make it seem like it's all about soundclick. Soundclick is simply just a hosting site that happens to have many artist looking beats, but you can't fully depend on just that. You have to go out of your way and promote all over the net to find artist and really make some decent money. It's really a lot of work.

There's a lot of producers on soundclick that have gotten major placements of that site, like johny and vybes. i know wacka flocka has gotten beats from soundclick and other artist like soulja boy, lupe fiasco ext... i've personally have been contacted by major labels through that site also.
