Hello,

I ve been producing for a good 5 years now and while sending my newest track to a mastering engineer it got picked up by a signed UK artist and they now want to buy it.

They are intending on using a big famous US rapper on it.

What kind of deal should I expect and what deal should I go for?
It s is purely a ghostwritting opportunity and i will not have my artist name on the track but will be credited on it.

I just want to make sure that if the track goes big (as they are hoping) I will get a fair deal.

I m open to any advice as this is the first time I do this.

Please help me!!

Make sure you know who/what you are signing with and what ability/authority they have to offer whatever it is that they offer (production company? artist-owned publishing company? major label record company?). You are _not_ selling the song, you are leasing/assigning rights for use. Make sure the contract does not mention outright sale or has the phrase "work for hire." Talk with an attorney (barrister). Get some sample single-song contracts to look at and compare to. If you are a member of a PRO, ask them for help; if not, get some books (look up Donald Passman).

Let us us know how it goes.
