There is alot of helpful stuff on this site.
Thanks for the links!
the link on the initial post for sampling laws isn't working....
I have a question though, dont really want to make an entire thread for it.
what are the laws for sampling for a mixtape/ online distribution? The music I plan on sharing is free ( I heard that if you don't charge money then its okay).
For Instance, lets say I sampled the guitar riff from dire straits "money for nothing"...used it in its entirety (the rif) and chopped it up. Now lets say this song become a hit through the internet and word of mouth. (just a dream, but i dont dream about getting sued for samples). Even though I'm not charging $ for it, can Dire Straits sue me?
I figure it should be okay-> mash-up artists and many techno artists produce and perform music with lengthy samples.....
also, if I'm using an unauthorized sample, theres no way I can get radio play....right?
I searched FP for topics on this but I can find anything clear. even a working link to explain this would be a GREAT help.
