I just made a remix to a song using the original acapella...as far as making money from this and acquiring a license, is it the same as for when making cover songs? or is it different?

contact the copyright owner ..you can do this on your own or you can have your entertainment lawyer do it for you

if you are putting out music you SHOULD HAVE a ENTERTAINMENT lawyer on speed dial..
or least have a small relationship with one...so when things like this arise you know what you need to do
