Can you get sued for using your own name as your artist name?

I want my name to be just Gabriel. Of course there are other Gabriels out there, but could I be sued if it was my actual name? Or would I have to use my last name?

in most cases no. You may need to qualify it so that you are distinguishable from other gabriels by using something like Gabriel E.

there are some names that are too famous to use even if it is your own - I cannot imagine anyone named John Lennon being able to use their own name, more because it would be viewed as being a dark joke than a reflection of the reality of their name. Same goes for Paul McCartney, Brian Eno, Brian Wilson, Chuck Berry and many others, all down to the iconic stature of the name within the industry and with the public.
