beibg heard is all about networking..try to hit up artist that are looking for beats for projects..find a local artist on on the net that you feel have talent and let him bless some tracks to get your name and your sound around.. your work dont have to be super mixed ..its need to be decent and mixed decent...that a(n) artist can say I like this beat..I can get down on that..

now-a-days if you can't show an A&R your packin shows and pushing 10,000 units on your own..why would they waste time on signing a new artist.. same with producer if you don't have a track record with artist ..why would the really take a chance..now if the artist likes the beat ..dont try to tax him for everything ..be reasonable ($2,000 - $6,000) with publishing.. give up the points or something..give them a reason to come back if the track is hot..(this is more for majors)

its just you really need to network..with artist that are doin real projects..not no damn mixtapes for friends on the corner..artist that have a little bit of budget or willin to pay you on the backend or just take the credit to be on a project that is legit..
    This is it.

If you have artists, produce complete ALBUMS with them, search for suitable management to get them shows, and handle business well and CONSISTANTLY.

    Refrain from mixtapes.

I was hoping that viewers/posters of this thread would actually check out my 3 finished tracks on my page and let me know if I have potential. I mean, if you were in my shoes, would you feel that you are at the point where you should try to shop your beats.

Subtl- i would say something on your tracks..but i cant view myspace site here at work (they have myspace and youtube blocked)

I get frustrated too man...still haven't sold my first beat. There's some music networking thing coming to town in a little bit that I'ma go to to get my name out there. Really I just want to make enough to finance improvements in my setup to make my beats better...and some new shoes. So yeah, I understand your frustration and the pain and self-doubt there is there. Keep at it is all I can say (and do).

Yo, i feel your pain man. But in all honesty i must say that your beats didnt sound well mixed and produced. So you gotta do some eq-ing and compressing, and finding some hard hitting drumkits. If you beats sounds better, artists wanna spit on your beats. Simple like that. Join battlesites and ask for opinions on your beats. So you will see what they worth. I hope you will take this criticism not personal, i'll give my honest view on this. Peace and good luck.

I feel you. I feel like I've got music that's good enough where artists would want to get on it. Although, to be honest, I haven't really tried getting my music to people until very recently. I figured, why let people hear your music if you don't feel you're ready? I still haven't reached what I feel my potential is, but I do finally feel comfortable letting people hear my music now.

Hey man. I think an important thing to note is that you also have to think about your beats from a rappers perspective. What i mean is, make sure they have a good structure for them to make a song out of. So that they have a clear 16 bar verse, then a chorus, with this repeating and maybe an 8 bar bridge or something in there at some point. But it makes a huge difference if the beat is set up for a song. I know i hear a lot of beats id love to spit on, but they have no structure and would only work for a freestyle.

Another important thing is to make sure you don't have to much going on during what would be verses (like a guitar solo or all kinds of strings and hits and crashes). The beat could be absolutelty incredible, but if there is too much going on, the rapper wont be able to rap on it. First and foremost a rap beat is a backdrop for words, and its own song second.

These are the two most common problems ive found with most of the beats on myspace and soundclick.

But anyways, i'm not sure if you have these problems. And i listened to your beats on myspace and i liked them especailly Dutch Boy.. And i can totally relate with what you said at the beginning, i don't care about money or anything, i'd just like to have my music appreciated. It gets really frustrating, but i've kind of come to accept that unless i drop out of college and devote all my time to music its not really going to go anywhere.

Hope that helps, damn i wrote a lot.

If you're ever looking for someone to get on a track of yours let me know.

Dawg, don't insult the rest of the world by being frustrated after a year of makin beats. Most people have been pushin 10 years + before they start makin some real noise. Of course you got cats who drop 2-3 years and they get noticed. Those are the early bloomers and early bloomers never have longevity. Keep on keepin on...hip hop is a lifelong journey and culture for all of us to share.
