What's an effective beat marketing strategy online?

ok.. if you are selling beats on the streets.. then dont stop that.. but incorporate what you do on the streets to your online game.. its all about you mentality..

The online market is saturated now with a lot of producers.. so you will have competition.. but its how you compete that really makes you stand out..
1. Learn your market.. know who is attracted to your beats. and who you can sell too.
2. learn how to market. learn what is the best way to get your beats to that targeted market.. keep asking questions.. trial and error is your best teacher.. keep moving forward.
3. dry, rinse, repeat... keep doing these processes.. never stop.. because as soon as you stop, another producer would come and take your place..

This is very broad, because the practices you might use might not be the same as another producer, you have to take what you know. and take what you have learned
and use it to the best of your ability. Always be willing to learn, ask other producers what they have done.. and figure out if what they did will work for you. and if it does
change it so it will work better for you.. make it yours..

IMHO, none...selling beats should just be passive income.

The beat game right now is crazy right now because most rappers are trying to get signed to a label and don't know how to shop their music themselves. They won't buy. I mean if takes 1 out of 1,000 rappers to buy a beat, it's just not worth it. That conversion rate is ridiculous, you have to create a business and learn how to market to these rappers to make a living selling beats.

The real money is in composing, game developers, filmmakers, animators, etc. will pay you to compose music for their project no problem. People need music for their youtube videos also. I probably would cakin right now but wasted time dealing with these "full of shit" rappers.

Mainstream hip hop right now is just about fame and fortune, you have to swim through so much trash and mainstream knockoffs to find ONE talented rap artist who cares about his passion

Absolutely! Finding that niche is the most important step. too many musicians never go through that stage of discovering their brand and audience. Here's a good marketing exercise that'll help: blog.macformusicians.com/promote-music/discovery/

It's mainly focused on performing artists, but translates very to many facets of the music business.
