Utilizing Facebook as an Artist/Producer

I want to take a minute and break down how Facebook works so artists/producers have a clearer understanding.
The more links and advertisements you post, the less Facebook will allow your friends to see your statuses. The more interactive, helpful, and human statuses you post, the more Facebook will allow your friends to see your statuses. Put simply, advertising is NOT what a personal Facebook page is designed for. An occasional tasteful advertisement is okay, but constantly posting links or the same message over and over again is NOT effective on personal Facebook pages. Your personal page is designed for personal use. If you want to share links regularly, create a Fan Page and INVEST in Facebook advertising to promote your links. Do thorough research about Facebook advertising options/prices and choose the tools that work best for you. Wisely set up your ad campaigns. Rushing through and setting up the campaigns without first doing research can result in burning through money very fast.

Also, on personal pages Facebook likes internal content more than links. Instead of links, upload your videos, photos, and other content directly to your Facebook (not shared links from youtube/instagram/other sites). You'll get more interaction this way because Facebook will allow more friends to see your content. Communicate your message tastefully with these tools, but don't overdo it. You need to pace yourself and have quality control with your statuses. Your personal page is supposed to be used to display who you are as a person. Be genuine and share your heart. Tell people your story. Once people get to know more about you, they'll be more open to hear your music. Everybody does music now, but there's only one YOU. Educate your followers about who you are as a person.

Please never post links to your music on people's pages, inboxes, group messages, comments, tagging people, etc unless asked. These things drive people away rather than entice them to listen. People will report you which means Facebook will allow even less people to see your content. Don't assume people don't like your music because you're not getting a response. It could simply be the way you're presenting it. You may be too aggressive. Make excellence and share it tastefully. Give people room to make their own choices about your music and be okay with their choice. Honestly, nobody is obligated to listen or respond. You have to avoid the feeling of entitlement and realize that every listen/response is a gift not a requirement. Don't worry about the response. Just keep putting out excellence because quality always rises to the top. Be patient. You can do this! Be blessed! -Ceasar
