Now on the flip side if you just need that cert to get an understanding while building go for it but if you want that to translate into something with bigger companies (later on) it would help, unless of course you have a track record success

Both institutions are accredited. One school is UCLA (certificate), and the other is CSUN (degree). I was also thinking about taking Berklee's online certificate degree.
The degree is 22K for 2 years while the certificate is 9K for the same amount of time.
 
I'm sure both schools are accredited but that doesn't mean the courses are the same. Prime example in the health care field... there is a difference between an RN an LPN and someone that goes to school and gets a certificate in a nursing course. All are around the same price at state colleges
Make sure your cert can transfer and is recognized in the industry,if not it's a waste
