Remix on cover

Wait, you want to remix a cover of the song, right? May I ask why won't you remix an original? <inquiring>

As far as I know, if song is copyrighted you will need to buy a copy of this song in order to remix it legally.
Permission from copyrights holder also would be helpful, so you can Email the artist.

Someone can correct me if i am wrong though.

Well, I always see this whole thing in my own way: If my remixes are not involved with money (for ex. making EP called "Remixes" and getting profit$), i don't buy these songs.
But fortunately i make remixes mostly from Contest Stems thrown by artists themselves :D
