Putting Material Out

Since I started making music I've always done it just for myself few people have heard, i never really exposed it i guess you can say.
I wanna start, you know websites, artist, emails, whatever.
Can anybody direct me on how I would protected my material which are just instrumentals, beats?
Should I worry about keeping track of who gets it?
Or worry about just getting out to people?
Should i worry about others using it and not giving me credit for it?
Is there any other things that may be of concern?

My feelings are that if you spend too much time worrying about not getting your credit than your music doesn't get heard as you limit the places you end up putting it. For a new producer and/or artist, it's important to build a fan base and be marketed in as many places as possible.
