Yo guys. i really dont wanna waste my time doing some bullshit job i wanna make music and shit like that all the time. I feel like its really hard to make a living just from making beats. So i thought thread we can give eachother suggestions n shit on how to make money of music, or anything audio affilated, to give that extra cash boost. Like for example u can make soundpacks and offer mixing services and such.
peace

You will never make any realistic money from music. Please quit so I can have more of the market. Thanks.

do you play an instrument? do fivers or similar gigs providing parts for others tracks.

also teach if you can play really well.

can you write great parts for instruments other than the basics (drums/bass/keys)? if so, offer your services as an arranger

Get on freelance websites and apply for jobs like making music/sounds for video games, apps, YouTube videos and stuff like that...audio editing for podcasts and stuff.

The porn industry is good money... Obviously, you can be the guy in the porn or you could license music for them.

The pizza delivery guy needs a theme tune.

Your on the right path. You know you want to do music, so now take action. Wont happend overnight though. You can def sell loop packs, sell to commercials, companies, freelance to youtube channels. You could even to just do affiliate programs for established websites, build a reputation and then release your own stuff.

Keep thinking outside of the box my friend, there are tons of way to make money using not just your music. You seriously need to start working on your brand as well, you aren't just some beat maker! You own a beat selling "BUSINESS". Here are a few things that my company does:

1. We sell T-shirts/Hats (Backpacks, Speakers, Headphones, Jackets, etc coming soon)

2. We sell promotions (Must have enough traffic coming in to do so)

3. We have song contests ($10+ fee to enter and the winner gets a payout)

4. We sell to other producers (making them beat pages to sell their beats on our site)

We have about 10 streams of income total and have only been in business 1 year (by we I mean me). I started selling beats online when I was 20, created Trizzy Tre Beats last year and have worked with artists from all over the world. It's not impossible my friend, you just have to do your homework and apply things from other business to yours.

If you're really good at it, you can try making fans on youtube and partnering up with them so you can get paid. You can try DJing too.

I know a guy who earns a living mixing compositions and songs. I'm not going to shill for him, but he charges $20-40 depending whether it's a beat or a full song. It's just a matter of advertising. He made a SoundCloud to post his beats but got a lot more responses when he started posting song remixes and people kept asking him to mix their tracks for them. Some of his tracks have close to 500K views. There's a few examples of songwriters like Superstar O that makes more money from his website selling kits, mixing services, etc. than he probably does selling beat leases.

I have been fortunate enough to make a great living producing and writing spec music. This has been for artists, bands, agencies, brands, etc. There are a lot of folks out there who need audio services. It seems like everyone jumps into the "passive model" first (selling beats and sample packs). I'm much more a fan of proactive money making in the start. Then later on you can worry about building a passive business.

In my opinion most producers are doing it backwards.

Hope that helps

Get together with the right team. Put together the right business plan. Do all the research you can do and then execute the plan. Create your own "blue ocean" and then go from there. And please, do yourself a favor and google the term.

A lot of it is just hustle... You gotta get yourself out there. Start your own blog, get on youtube, submit your tunes to different music sites... and be on a constant look out for gig opportunities. You won't get a stable income from doing this, but at least you might be able to get by.

I hadn't heard of this... Thanks for the reference!

No problem. I take a different approach than everyone else in the music biz I've run across and have a "corporate" outlook when it comes to it. Yes, I look at music as an art, and it is, but I also think of ways to monetize it and it's going to become even more hard for artist to monetize their work as they aren't thinking outside of the box, aren't forward thinking and utilizing "outcome based thinking" and are simply not prepared for opening markets and new tech on the horizon. For example, if AR and VR took off within the next year (it's going to in the next five but let's just say it does it in the next year), how many rappers would have something for it? How long would it take them to develop for this new format? Would it be an organic transition or would it be looked at as a cash grab?

I was recently interviewed by a multi million dollar earphone start up about my project and I share quite a bit of info. You can read it here if you like:
