Labels provide knowledge of the music industry (the business aspect). They also provide good opportunities for collaboration. With a team of creative artists, knowledge can be shared. 
I started a label with a few friends awhile ago. Now we have around 30 artists, but I'm always looking to make new friends in the music industry.
