Independent Artists

Somethings that will help include being consistent, having something different about you, engaging with your fans/target market and some solid promotion. Try and create your fanbase then when you have a decent number of die hard fans or people really into you and your music you can look at paid shows as well as your music even your own clothing line. (Multiple revenue streams should never be overlooked in the music industry)

Exposure, build a following, and make yourself an EPK (electronic press kit) asap. Nowadays one can do fairly well on mixtapes and performances.

First:
You absolutely MUST copyright your music with the us. Gov... Here is a post to guide you through the process, * aristake com/?post=91 *
it costs $55 to copyright about 100 songs at once...

Next:
You're gonna wanna register with a PRO to collect songwriter and publisher share of royalties... BMI is free to sign up with.

Next: Go to * Tunecore com * and sign up for publishing admin, $75 one time fee and that collects the royalties that regular PROs can't collect... DO NOT get the digital distribution!! Waste of money...

Next: Sign up at * distrokid com * for their digital distribution... $20/ yr for unlimited albums and you get in the same stores as all the other distribution services for a fraction of the cost as the others.

Next: Get a YouTube account and a SoundCloud account and upload all the songs from the albums

Next: Sign up with * Adrev net * to collect your YouTube royalties, sign up for the self service account... No charge, but they take 20% of net royalties

Now you're done and getting royalties from sales, streams, downloads, plays, and views!!

And please, file those royalty statements as income on your tax returns so that you don't get fucked 10 years later for owing the govt!
