I remixed a Calvin Harris song and after a lot of listens, soundcloud removed it :(

I was hoping I would be ok as in the UK we have the Fair Use Policy.

Could someone clarify as to what exactly rights you have when remixing a song? about 50% of my remix is made up of the original but with better kick and other layers on top...

I wont post the link as this isn't about self-promotion.
 
fair use does not cover releasing a work that contains material from another copyright copyrighted work - fair use doctrine is for three things only: Critical review, satirical/parody versions (Weird Al Yankovic's main pathway) and Educational examples: this is true in the UK, Australia, Canada and the USA as well as many other places around the world

Yup. Sites like YouTube and SoundCloud will do that. That is why i don't remix anymore unless the artist releases the stems to the public. That's way there is no fear of any violations.
