First of all. Thank you for anyone who responds.

I'm a music producer. I'm in New York, United States.

Recently, I met an artist who is in Italy.

So the problem is we want to protect the music from copyright infringement.
Basically anyone stealing ideas, copying or making derivative works from ours.

What is the easiest way to protect it?

Should I be protecting my beats?

Should the artist be protecting their lyrics?

Should the song be protected?

Who should be doing what? and how?

Does the fact that we live in different countries change how things normally would work?

Also, the profit is going 50/50 between me (producer) and her (artist)

The thing is people are definitely copying us. .

So we need to start handling it responsibly.

You don't need to protect your beat but only tags. He should register his song to Library of Congress so that the song will be protected.

Erroneous information. Your "beat" is a musical composition. Once his words/melody and your instrumental track are put together, they are considered _one song_, for the purposes of copyright and publishing. Do your due diligence.
