In the past I've had a lot of setbacks when it came to releasing music because I had such poor business tactics. Man I mean I've been through it all.
- Releasing music that didn't mesh well with my genre's scene (house music),
- Using bad promotion services,
- Pay to play scams,
- No way of tracking plays/sales (if any)
- Paying for followers/likes because I was naive enough to think this was the way to go,
- Depending on word of mouth or my skills, and the list goes on.
With that said, bad business decisions are what led me to where I am today and without consistently promoting the right way I was never able to yield any real results. Which brings me to my question. How long should a newcomer promote their dance music single? I'm thinking three months is a great length of time to get the ball rolling on a would be career. If anyone has thoughts on this please share.
