How do you get your music played on the radio?

I don't know.. nothing fancy. Just a local radio station or something. Some things I'm starting to consider..
A simple question though I'm expecting some nitty gritty answers :P

If you have local connections that would help. If you have a local station that has a local music oriented show, follow their submission guidelines. Same with Internet "unknowns"/"exposure" shows. Again, if you already have existing, or can develop connections and relationships, that can push your submissions to the top of the stack (or at least closer to the top).

Regional or National/International radio? Terrestrial or Internet, that requires a budget for a well-connected/established promotion person. There are specialists for almost every genre and format. They are not inexpensive. But worth the money if you have it. They also have a submission/acceptance policy, as many don't work with indie acts, and if they do, they only want the best because they have a reputation to uphold. So it's not just about money; you have to have the goods as well.

Costs can be (roughly) anywhere from $1,000 per project to $1,000-$3,000 and up per _week_. There is usually a commitment to a specific "campaign" length, such as three to six months.
