How do you become a Instrumental artist like Flying Lotus

Lately I have been listening to a lot of instrumental electronic/hip hop artist like Flying Lotus, Gold panda, Baths, just to name a few. I was wondering if anybody knows How a producer like myself can get on the scene of instrumental beat music. I really love to produce music, and I want to be an instrumental artist like these guys, rather than having someone rap over my beats. What are the steps to make this possible.
