giving away a remix for free (youtube, soundcloud, etc)

i'm about to finish a very nice remix.. however i don't want problems with copyright issues or whatever, so i'm asking it here first.

Can i place it on youtube without a permission of the owner of the original song? and if so, can i also give it away for free (=free download of the remix)

You can do whatever you like; however, YouTube will likely remove the remix due to infringement. It happens everyday to everyday people. And, you should be aware, that copyright owners have the right to pursue anyone who disregards copyright laws...

Ok, thank you, anyways i'm going to put it online and see what happens as it isn't really easy to contact the author.. and i don't even know how i could lol
