I've always wondered how to get my hands on the stems of popular songs by famous artists. I went to a sound engineering school and we had a course on the music industry but I don't recall getting that information from the teacher.
In the case where I would want to only stream the remix on SoundCloud, what licenses would I need?
In the case where I would want to resell the remix on say iTunes and Beatport, what licenses would I need?
Where could I get the stems, or acapella of a given track? What license would I need for that?
I'm just curious as to how certain music producers have access to these stems and licenses. Is it because they have contacts or is this a hidden "secret" of the remixing industry that record labels don't want you to know?
