do ringtones still have a market?

I looked into the Sean Kingston song "Take you there" which sold 500,000 ringtones; That was a while back, so my question is do ringtones still sell or no one really cares about it anymore? I think there was a time where ringtones counted as also being certified whether it's gold or platinum, etc. That song was gold in the "ringtone" business.

Without looking up statistics and just from common sense I would say no. Every modern phone can get songs onto it then have them set to be the ringtone free of charge. The only place I see still buying ringtones are older folks and less developed countries.

Not as an independent producer no.

There would be jobs going at apple, samsung etc writing ringtones but I would imagine not very many of them

I signed a ringtone deal in 2005-7. I can't remember. It's still paying today, I may send tracks to the publisher once a year. It's not as big as it use to be, but it's still there, but very very niche.
