Sorry if I sound stupid for this... but how do you get someone to sign a contract do you mail it or something? I have no clue how anything works.

You have many choices. In order of old schoolness:
Sing in person
Fax/sign/fax back
Send PDF, have them sign (with a program like Foxit PDF Editor) and email back to you (my favorite)
Use an internet document signing service like docusign
Remember, a verbal contract is still binding

All of these options are perfect but if you can get it signed in person it can maybe lead to a upsell. The oppurtunity to sell them more. So if your dealing with local artist i recommend in person.
