The Best Way To Gain Followers and Get Plays on Soundcloud

A lot of cats ask me how I get so many plays, comments, etc. on Soundcloud all the time so I thought I would share the way I do it.

I don't subscribe to any third party or "buy plays" because its really about making genuine connections.

The Number 1 way I get plays from people is COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I commented on peoples tracks and just genuinely told them how I felt about them. I did this for 30 minutes a day for about 3 months and got pretty good results.

I got to a point where I would get about 30+ Followers a day consistently without even logging in for a few days.

BUT here are some time saving tips also.

1) Don't go to people's pages to comment instead go to groups where you can see and comment on multiple tracks from multiple different producers.

2) If you're not feeling a track I'd suggest constructive criticism or abstaining. Better the later since I would suggest not taking a gamble on whether someone has an ego or not.

3) Reply to everyone who says anything about your track and if they really dig your stuff tell them to connect with you via Facebook whether you have a page for your music or not.

4) OBVIOUSLY stick to people who have similar interests musically and also lets say you are trying to sell beats etc. try to aim to comment on artists that would possibly become future customers of yours.

*Bonus Tip

If you have a PRO account I would suggest messaging people who favorite or download your tracks to see if they'd be interested in connecting via Facebook or any other site.

At the End of the day its not really the numbers that count (though it can help spark initial interest) but the amount of genuine connections you have and what that number can do for you.

Here's another effective way to use Soundcloud to connect with rappers:

Begin by using the site search to find rappers by using keywords like (acapella, rap, etc.) by doing this you'll start to see patterns of common tags and behaviors that are common among artists. (eg: people who upload frequently, people who have a fan base, people who share your sound preference, etc. ) - you'll also be able to find rappers via the "group" search using similar search terms. The beauty of the "groups" search is that you'll have a list to browse from.

Quick search Tip: Think niche vs general. (eg: Rapper = general vs. Old school east coast hip hop = niche)

Next, listen to their music. Seriously, this is often overlooked but probably matters the most. Take the time to learn your target market by hearing what they sound like and peeping their style. Certain artists have a "preferred" or a "go to" sound when it comes to beats and rhymes. This will help you market your beats more effectively. Not everybody wants / likes trap beats. This will also give you something to discuss should you choose to engage with them.

Ok, after you've determined if they sound like someone you might want to connect with then look for the tiny star next to their names as this is an indication of someone who has paid for a "pro plan" on Soundcloud. This is a biggie for me as that little star tells me that this person believes enough in their craft that they are willing to make an investment in their craft. (Something to think about: I have stumbled upon some artists who have paid for pro accounts but continue to rap over super garbage beats because they are against buying beats. - yes, they're out there.)

Next, shoot the ones you wanna connect with a short email with a genuine message via the soundcloud messenger with a link to a track preview of a beat you've selected that sounds similar to the style of beats you've heard them rapping over initially. If all goes well and they like what they hear, you should receive a response from them not too long after that and at that point its all up to you on how you conduct your business and close that sale. Another tip: Free customers are the hardest to turn into paying customers. #JusSayin

Another tip: you can keep track of who you message via your inbox and if you don't hear back from them in a few days drop a comment on one of their most recent tracks with your contact info, etc.- Follow up matters.

Again: Always [like the op said] make your messages genuine as people can go to your profile and see the recent track comments you've made and see just how genuine you were about what you said...

That's about it. If you do it right, you'll be on the road to building up your list of targeted customers and more importantly returning customers.

Sorry if this seemed long winded but I wanted to help spark up some ideas and help those cats out having a hard time utilizing Soundcloud. It can be a great tool if you use it right.

If you guys are going the comments route, I'd suggest checking out this service called CloudKillers.

I'm not sure this is the best method to get a LOYAL following, but you do have to start from somewhere, right?

You could go with a spam blaster service (there are many available) but it gets people annoyed real quick and they eventually will block you so its in your best interests to build your following organically.

No.

I'm trying the comment route, giving fellow producers my opinions on their tracks, something that is more than "Good track, bro", but less than a full fledged review of said song. So far, all I got was "thanks" replies for the comments, a couple more followers, and one guy who reposted one of my music on his soundcloud page/facebook. I haven't noticed a significant rise on plays or likes yet, though. I'm doing this for like a week now, so I guess that's why.

Thanks for the tips definitely helps! I only got 300 followers on soundcloud and was looking to get more. Anyways I found this place on soundcloud where they feature underground artists its like the perfect place for you guys to contact rap artists. Heres the link: https://soundcloud.com/rap
Actually one of them rapped to one of my beats!:

If you want your music to reach the wider listening world then: Join a social network,Set up a website,Keep your website/profile current,Write a decent biography,Get some good photos,Offer your songs for free download,Interact with other artists,Dedicate some time to your fans,Make sure your social network friends are valuable,Keep your social profile concise– remember that people generally don't have much patience on the net :) you can try offers by freelancers on webs like SEOClerks where they offer to promote soundcloud for a small cost.

30 followers a day? That's pretty damn impressive from just some commenting and shit.

I wouldn't **** with bots either. I've been spamming in other ways on and off for about 15 years (pimping hoes with bulk AOL messages, millions of fake porn pages in Google, etc). They call using bots "black hat" while doing it legit is "white hat" (like cowboys or hackers). If you go the black route, you can make money but it's almost like you have to have a scheme to launder it. You can't just operate as legit, then run a bot and make more money.

I've had some success on Soundcloud, but it's never been from actually grinding on Soundcloud(haven't really tried). What worked for me is taking my own beats, samples and building *good* remixes of tracks from established artists. I had one that sat idle for a month, then all the sudden I see it's getting thousands of plays in a few minutes and it turns out the artist saw it and posted it on facebook and twitter. 2 days later they even contacted me to turn the concept into an album
