Best city for a producer

i usually buy my equipment off of the internet. i usually go with ebay or musiciansfriend.com i rarely go to the store and buy equipment unless it's just a y cable or a headphone jack adapter or something.
 
With the advancement of technology, do cities matter? I know big cities with oppurtunities to access studios were important 40-50 years ago. But with software applications now, you can make bangin' beats from within the middle of the Humboldt forest. :)
