Backup & Encrypting your music

Figured this fit in the Industry section since its a best practice.

Anyway, I've been pretty anal the last year when it comes to backing up my music, artwork, docs, etc. and I know alot of folks do the same. One downside of working in a digital only medium is that technology fails and hardrives crash! I backup my data to Dropbox and another cloud service as well as 2 hard drives which one I keep off site from the studio.

The case of Ryan Leslie's missing laptop got me thinking about encrypting my data as well. If your shit gets jacked or lost, and it will at some point in the future... your data in the wrong hands can become a very uneasy situation. Imagine someone jacking all your sessions, sounds, etc.

I overlooked the encryption step in the backup workflow and now encrypt everything. It's one thing to backup, but adding a layer of security certainly is crucial especially in the Intellectual Property Domain, especially if its your bread and butter.

Anyway, wanted to open up a conversation and see what other people are doing for their backup/encryption workflow. Like I said, I use dropbox & truecrypt for OSX + encrypted externals.

If you are interested in a Dropbox account, they give 2GB free. Peep this link: https://www.dropbox.com/http://db.tt/LbKWCtA
