I'm new and have had and intereset in production and learnign to make beats for a while but never had a way to really get started. I may be gettign a cahnce to work with a local guy here in NC, that has his own studio but can never keep any good help. This will give me a chance to learn from someone who has the background knowledge but I also am hoping i can get an idea of where to start at on here like what software to get for my pc so i can play at home also.

thanks for the links. I was lookinf for a MAC G4 laptop to start with but would you suggest something else. I have a Dell laptop now but I was going to get something to just use strictly for music. I dont play any instruments but i have a huge desire to learn the craft. Do most people already play or is it just the learning curve and talent?

If you use a fast enough laptop now.....why change????? I use a Dell Laptp & desktop and don't have to many problems. I can't speak for the majority, but here is a bit on how I started from a previous post:I was a similar kind of situation. Everyone around me always rhyming, nobody making beats. I decided to step up and take the plunge. Home Recording For Dummies book was my start. I then read every single book I could find about starting a record label, publishing(you have got to know how to stay paid) and busic buisness books. When I hit the internet it was on.....Teaks,FP,Ill,beattalk,warbeats.....I read, I read, I read. Saved up for my Triton, put to use what I read. Had to read a manual too. On to korgforums. Learned sampling(the purest form of hip hop) copped the BeatTips Manual and then on to composing. Emedia Software helped me get some keyboard/piano chops. Idiots Guide to Music Theory book schooled me on basic theory. Practice, practice ,practice. Nothing truly worthwhile is easily attained.

Click on my name and view my profile to see my gearlist. My gear doesn't make the beats by itself.....it needs me. I've been making beats off and on for 6 years.
