Is that the sound of one hand clapping? I thought we'd have a bigger audience.

The music is really different from the stuff I talk about here (no synths, no sequencers ... they don't even like digital recording!! ) I play bass and it's a 'guitar' band.

To be honest I've already had one record deal with a major and I'm not famous yet, so I'm not counting on being famous this time round. I don't want to be famous anyway (who wants to be recognised when they're doing their shopping?) I just want to make music for a living. I kind of see this as (hopefully) a second chance to do that. With a little bit of money I'll be able to this full-time and I will work my arse off to get my own stuff out. I might have to lie to my record label about that, but fuqk 'em they're out to shaft me, so I'll shaft them.

We had the initial draft through last week and we're negotiating on a few points (little music industry pun there) at the moment, but it looks like - touch wood - it's going to go ahead. Unfortunately the advance is really minimal so we're all holding out on getting a decent publishing advance ..... I really, really want to make music full time.

As an aside, hopefully Mano is going to put up the short version of my last contract so that people can have a look at what you sign away if you get a deal (or at least in the situation of signing to a Major for some albums). We're talking about people being able to ask questions about it that I can answer, but I've got to send him a brief biog first and he's up to his eyes at the minute as well.

LOL sure as hell would hate to go to the store and have what I bought show up in the next edition of National Enquirer! LOL...

KasioRoks..sooooooo sorry about the delay. I will tell Mano he will sleep in the snow if he does not get that done over this next weekend. I know he has been wanting to do it.

On the prospective deal.. Kick the lables *** into submission.. and keep a journal of the ups and downs...even if you get famous.. It would be cool to read

Just not the way it works, they have all the power in this situation. Very slowly we're starting to get a bit of publicity - a play on XFM, a play on Virgin, a little magazine wants to do a small feature on us - and if that manages to generate interest from other labels then we'll be in a position to negotiate. As it stands I hope that we're going to let some other labels know that we might be signed, in the hope that they might get interested that way ..... A journal is a good idea though. I wish I'd done that first time around!

Just realised, this is going way OT ..... more bragging please

I know it does not work that way ....I WISH

You should do some press releases to send to local magazines, music mags, newspapers and stuff about your next show and the possibilities of you getting signed. You may get some press?? you never know... All you need is a few write-ups, clip them out and send them to the A&R guys at the labels you want... anonymously.. heheh

Making me think [pondering thought] When doing promotional cd's for companies we put together this fake article in a fake edition of Ad Age (an advertising trade mag) about how the guy who signed with us to do the deal was the CEO of the company because he did the CD program... LOL It was corny but it worked.. we got the deal!ehhehe [/pondering thought]

LOL, now that is funny. The thing about local press in Britain (especially around London) is that it's desperate for news ("Cat Stuck Up Tree Horror") and is complete pony. I honestly believe that being in your local rag is totally meaningless. The thought of sending that to an A&R man .... doesn't even bear thinking about. More important to us is to get into the fanzines that exist and that is something we need to get onto really. Like I say, it's happening slowly (we got our first unsolicited fan join our mailing list via our website the other day - normally they have to be press-ganged into coming to gigs).

Anyway, was your story about the fake article a mini-brag? We did the same thing in my old band with the NME (weekly music paper over here). We scanned in a gig review and with a bit of jiggery pokery managed to put our own text about us as the *fantastic* support band. Couple of photocopies later and it actually looked pretty good. Didn't really do us any good though
