is there a soft synth/ sampler i can get where by i can load a sample such as a string sample playing 'C', then this soft synth/sampler scales the sample to all the keys so i could be able to play note 'F' for example. i have tried using my hardware sampler (yamaha a4000) but it effects the time stretch aswell (which i dont want) ne1 got ne help??

Well, there's samplers that timestretch in realtime...or simply pitch it up/down like all samplers do. But if you understand how digital audio is handled, you'll see that you simply can't expect to pull a full scale out of a single sample without getting extensive artifacting from timestretching or lenghtening/shortening the sample due decreased/increased playback speed (=what happens when normally pitching it).

How does it "effect the timestretch" on the A4000? I had an A3000 and it definitely didn't do realtime timestretch...

basically i record the sample into my a4000 and without doing anything else i can play it like an instrument using my midi controller ie. with full scale. but as each note gets higher the length gets shorter and as each note gets lower the length gets longer.

by saying full scale - i only mean 1 or 2 octaves but i fuly understand what ur saying. thanks 4 the help.

You should be able to do simple multisample patches with just about any modern sampler. The "classic" approach is to sample notes at regular intervals (like 2-3 notes per octave) and map those - of course you can sample every note with multiple velocities but unless you're aiming for an ultra-realistic patch you can usually get away with less. This of course depends on the instrument being sampled.

Another thing about the "every nth note approach" goes back to when memory limitations basically didn't permit you to sample every note, and long decay/release parts were almost always achieved by clever loop-point use. Nowadays it's more of a "how detailed you want to take it" issue because memory and disk space is practically limitless in most cases...

very true ill play with it a little bit. the fun part is going to be that I plan to use one shot samples from my vinyl which i dont understand actually. I plan to do it in Reason using the NNXT but I know the note will only last so long before its unuseable. Ill play with the attack and decay on each sample tho maybe i can make something cool. any other tips

You can try and loop the sustain part of the sound in the NN-XT as well, but it's a bit hard since the controls are pretty crude - getting a perfect zero-crossing loop of a possibly very short part of a sample is gonna be hard. I'm not sure if Reason/NN-XT understands loop points create in Soundforge (for example) - you might try that also.

Well...yes and no. There's obviously no way to automatically just select the sustain part, since that could be just about anything. You'll have to find it with the loop start/end knobs.
