Specific Question about Reason 4 compression/maximizing/EQing

so, I am finally getting the hang of compressing and maximizing. But I have been facing the same problem for so long! Here is an example of the situation: so say I have a kick drum. I compress it and then maximize it to where I want it, and it sounds good to me. Then, I add the EQ to get it exactly where I want it, and It really starts to sound perfect. However, once I add the EQ effects, I can't seem to get it out of the red zone on the master mixer. I have been trying to accomplish this for so long but I can never seem to get the right sound while keeping it in the green. any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks so much!

    good rule of thumb:

    EQ then compress then maximise

Look at the standard mastering combo to understand what I mean

okay, so I tried the new order of operations out, Eq,Compressor, and maximize. And the same problem persists.. Whenever I get it to where it sounds clean and loud enough (not like crazy loud just loud enough to please the ear) It is always still in the red zone. the channel volume is at 100 out of 127, is that part of the problem? the master volume is also at 100. thanks!
