Is FL Studio Overrated?

i think its underrated if anything. its accessible, loud, clean, and powerful. the step sequencer is awesome. edison is awesome. it supports vst's

most of all the upgrades are free for life

i dont know if you can record vocal tracks but other than that, its everything you can ask for in a beat making sw imo

It doesn't matter what you use. Ppl seem to believe that the tools make the beat. Its a tool. What use is a $1,000 paint brush if you don't have the imagination to create something. Tools help get the job done. Better tools help in effort but you have to be good first. For instrumental beats.

Yes, it's overrated. Not to say it's bad or not capable of doing what other DAW's do, but it's not the holy grail of DAWs. Not even close.

It's popular because "xyz" artist made a few hits with it, then it became popular and all the copy cats followed because they don't know any better. And noobs of course think there is always some secret ingredient to making hit songs. Talent and knowledge is never a factor to noobs.

The price of the software and free lifetime upgrades is also a very attractive selling point.

If anything underrated. It factually has more functionality in it's realm than anything else on the market that targets production/beats over recording(Maschine, Workstation Keyboards, Drum Machine Samplers/Sequencers, MPC Ren, Reason, Live)and close to the same functionality as any other DAW(surpasses more than it falls short to IMO).

I think it just gives way more creative control! Most other programs like garage band and reason in particular are kind of limited compared to what fl studio can do. Also when you start off by learning with fl studio you kind of learn way more then what you would with the others! FL has a lot of bells and whistles! I make hot beats in fl studio and I am just really learning to be honest! check out my thread!

But the thing about FL studio is that it does the exact same thing other DAW/programs do plus waaaayyyyyy more!!!
Its like a Casio walmart brand keyboard compared to a Triton or better keyboard to me!

WoW..........LOL.........Hilarious.

Whilst I've not used FL myself, I've heard some people do some fantastic things with it. Any music creation tool is good, even if it doesn't have the "serious" reputation of Logic/Live etc. If what you're using does everything you need it to do, then it's a great bit of kit :)

Its what you make out of it. And these " it looks amateur" specialists just need to stop it already.
If Logic is considerd High-End, and all the Top-Dogs use it but the Lay-Out and its Workflow doesn't do it for me,
whats the point? Do you!

I use Fl Studio for all my productions. Then, I decided I would give Ableton Live a try. Nah, didn't work. I'm glad I didn't go all the way through and bought it. It would be some cash thrown in the garbage.

Fl Studio can do all I wanna do, and I think I'm just used to the way it works.

Reason's sound banks are much more powerful than fl and the same goes for ableton live. but if you've got good quality vst's in fl studio. they do not differ that much...for me i think fl may be easy to use but hard to master. the creativity is endless. so im all in for image line

FL Studio is often overrated by noobs who make some bizarre assumptions, the funniest is that the piano roll is somehow unique to FL Studio, as though people weren't using that shit in the 80's and had to wait until version 3.0 of Fruity Loops to drop in 2001, the worst assumption however is that FL Studio is the best program for MIDI.

FL Studio is often underrated too, by people who assume that it is somehow impossible for a program to evolve beyond it's humble beginnings and it's all too often judged by the output of it's new users which I think is a bit unfair.

I view FL Studio as a modern equivalent to the cheap accessible hardware used in the 90's, you know the stuff people thought was crap until it was put into the right hands. FL Studio is a great program with lots of potential, people just need to stop watching so many YouTube tutorials/cookie cutter videos and experiment with a little trial and error from time to time.

exactly.

Every dope NewGen-Beatmaker I know makes his shit with FL Studio. For making BEATS, its perfect, at least as good as Ableton, Reason, Cubase, Logic etc.

For real musicians, for making live music, for producing a whole band etc. it might be not the right thing. Then you should grab a copy of Cubase, Logic, Studio One, ProTools.

Personally I prefer FXpansion Geist, but I used FL Studio a long time before that.

FL Studio is going to be outdated soon. It is just too simple for the new age of technology and the way things are being made.

It would not be my pic at all seems that Live9 is my goto these days but everybody has their own preferences..

Probably so. But that's not a bad thing.

FL Studio will have its place in history as a great piece of software that put the ability to make music in the hands of the masses.

Hopefully, Image Line will be able to either keep up with the innovations in technology or sell itself to another company before it loses its luster. The name alone is worth millions.

I started out composing instrumentals in FL Studio. What I loved about it was that it was very easy to use. Within five minutes, I was composing, and I finished my first rudimentary product within an hour and a half. I loved playing with FL. It was easy, versatile, and very instrumental in getting your ideas right off the ground. BUT, I didn't like how there weren't a lot of tools to manipulate the sound to the idea I had in my head. I wasn't given the tools necessary to go as crazy as I wanted with FL. That or maybe I just didn't really click with it. I personally prefer Logic Pro. The software is versatile, easy to use, and the control you have over every little facet of sound is unprecedented. A blessing and a curse about music is that there is no right way to make it. The only thing you can do is work with what works for you.

I strongly disagree that FL Studio is overrated. It seems as though there is a common misconception behind it. Image-Line has came a long way since their apparently silly "Fruity Loops" days. It may be easier to crack than other DAWs but that does not prove that it is overrated. It may not have many or any certifications available at the moment either. Still, how does that prove it is overrated? These assumptions do not appear to have any significant backing. Honestly, I see bandwagon appeal on both sides of the coin; Many people use it simply because many do. Many people do not use it because many do not use it. This is a logical fallacy. I know people who have a legitimate reason(s) not to use it. I also know people who have their legitimate reason(s) to use it. Interestingly, FL Studio has become one of the most flexible DAWs available today. This is backed by comparison between many prominent DAWs of today. Personally, I prefer certain DAWs over others depending on my workflow at the moment. This is usually determined by what my vision is for the project at hand. For example, I may lay down a piano arrangement on FL then export it Ableton to record some live drums over it. Afterwards, I may export those tracks to Pro Tools so I can record vocals then mix. At the end of the day, it is not what you have but how you use it. I will conclude by asking my fellow futureproducers these questions; Are Reason, Cubase, Reason, Logic, and Pro Tools overrated? Is FL Studio underrated? Think about it guys... God bless! :-}
