EQ-ing help?

What are you trying to achieve? Where's the tune, so we can reference our answers to? You questions is too generic, mate.

I'm not necisarily looking for help with a specific track, I would just like to learn how to EQ tracks in general so that everything sits better.

sadly there is no one size fits all solution to eq'ing - if there was we could simply write a program or app to do it and never have to worry about it again

every track has its own demands and needs for eq and mix levels so every track has to be treated as a new adventure

the best advice we can give you in the one size fits all category set your Q to be as narrow as possible (effectively a notch filter), set your boost or cut to max and then sweep the frequency until you find the spot that needs work, then adjust both Q (bandwidth) and boost/cut until it is subtle rather in-yo-face (unless you like that sort of thing). repeat for each freq that needs work until problems are solved

It's also helpful to know what frequency range of various instruments and human voice. That way you'll know what range to boost if you want that track to stand out of the mix and you can cut frequencies outside the range. It will also help you have a feel for what frequency you are trying to enhance.

Playing around with a hardware graphic eq and some of your favorite music, radio, etc. can also help familiarize yourself with what sits on each band/frequency.

google it.. and youtube it.. eq is basically taking out frequencies of a sound that may clash with another sound.. or adding frequencies to a sound so it may stand out more..
