Everytime I try to track my vocals in FL I always get my vocals and then the instrumental together on the same channel. What am I doing wrong?

you mean the track bleeds into the vocals? If that's the issue turn off your main speakers while tracking, and send all the sound through the headphones when you record. When recording in Fl I recomend using Edison. Recording directly to audio clips tend to lead to track bleeding.

You need to set your mic input into one of the empty mixer tracks. You know how you go to a mixer track at the top before the beginning of the FX chain, that drop down box? Well go to one of the empty mixer tracks, in the drop down box set your mic you are using, arm the track with the floppy disc icon(right click over that icon to indicate what folder you want your armed track vocal take to go.), and it should be independent from the beat. If your just pressing record without doing this your vocals record with the beat in it during the playback b/c it automatically sets to record vocals in the master track.

Try to choose a separate mixer channel for your vocals. If you are using edison, it means you'll put your edison in a dedicated channel.
But, you know, you don't have to record with FL studio. What I usually do is I put on my headphones one ear so I can hear myself with one ear and the beat with the other. Then I play the beat on fl studio, then open adobe audition (you could use any other recording software) and record there. When I'm done, I save the recording in the fl studio "recorded" folder. Fron there, I drag and drop on fl studio playlist, then put the track on its own mixer track. Then I mix!

Just go to an empty mixer slot, go to the input box above the effects channel, select the output of your mic, make sure FL is set to recrod audio and record right into the playlist. Easiest way I know of.
