Reson 4 - gate mode?

Just wanted to know more info about gate mode and is this possible to create in Reason 4? I was reading some info about sp303 and find that there is some kinda fx called gate mode - set the gate points and it only plays the sections when you press the pad.
So if i am understanding right, gate mode in Reason 4 would be when i in nn-xt set sample start/end points, that would be gate mode or it is something different?
I am kinda confused right now - that setting sample start/end points in nn-xt for me always has been called - chopping, not gate mode. So if anyone could sahre more info about this ''gate mode'' it would be great.

no its not the sample starting and end time. its when u make the dynamics of one sound trigger another sound or fx.
