your new, so ima give a heads up: threads with "FL vs Reason" type topics tend to get ignored cuz ppl dont like answering that question, it starts too much debating... as far as which program u should use, download a few demos and go from there. Everyone on here has their favorite but only you can find out what works for you....

btw, if you use the search feature, you are bound to find some info on VST's and plug-ins

People always narrow it down to FL, and Reason, but there are so many more choices that it's mind boggling.

Browse this link, and be amazed at all there is out there> http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php?mode...sort=1&rpp=100

Reason is good in that it has lots of nice built in sounds, and it is pretty user friendly.
Fl can host vst's wich opens alot of possibilites, and there are many very good free vst(i) as well.
So you can buy the $99-150 version be set with that.

Both are better paired with a daw if you plan on doing any serious audio recording (vocals, guitars, etc.)

I also suggest looking at Orion platinum if you like FL.
Orion's gui is better imo(keep in mind it is just that, an opinion).
Everything works off of the big mixer instead of the drum grid as FL does.
Cakewalk offers 2 softstudio types as well with Project 5v2, and Kinetic.

Also there is Psycle wich is opensource freeware, and has many good built in synths, and effects.

If you want to look into daw/sequencer types the feild widens greatly, and there are too many to mention.

But in that category there's one pretty good one has a free version called Mutools Luna.
No built in synths, and no built in effects,
But in reality you don't really need that stuff built in because there is so much high quality free vst synths, and effects to use.
    Check below.

You have FL...Keep it and learn it.

Use FL as your HOST...and ReWire reason to it...load up some vsts and your set.

I have all three...I NEVER use Cubase...not because I dont like it...I just have no need...

I use FL mainly...I've had Reason for over a year and am just now sitting down with it and learning it...

I would say get Reason AND FL and go from there...both of them together is a beautiful thing...

Go with FL Studio 6 or 7 as a Host, and Rewire Reason in FL has a channel.

Funniest thing is that XXL is NOT any extension for FL.
The ultimate FL version is Producer Edition for 150$. It IS the full functional program.

XXL is optional. All stuff bundled with it is FL Producer Edition *plus* some extra plugins. You're free to buy them altogether (XXL) or never if you wish to complete your setup with other plugins.

you're right except xxl version is producer edition all pimped out...unless you are planning on spending a lot of money on vst's or external synthesizers i wouldn't reccomend to stick with fl studio. i've used many programs and fl studio is nice but not the best. trust me i used to think it was all that like you but one day you start to see the light when you've worked with cubase and reason much. in the end it's all opinion but i'd rather have a sequencing program that will support 24 bit since that is basically the standard in the music world.

I've been using it since 2001. Even used Cubase extensively for a while but did in no way see any light in it. lol
I'm not running any big project studio where all the bells and whistles Cubase has its stregths in is needed.
All I need is a composition tool to sequence my songs into; and judging just by this factor, Cubase has nothing FL does not offer.

If it's that important to you, go for it.
FL can import 24 bit WAV and AIFF audio. I don't need the functionality to export to 24bit. If that's all there is for this 'big light' you mentioned, well... whatever suits you. ^^
