The reason 5 is a beast bro. The difference between 4 and 5 is the Kong "MPC" instrument, and the new OCTO instrument and other instrument patches. Plus everything is very crisp now in 24bit instead of 16bit. I'm usually do not compose in Reason at all, when i made the switch to Ableton a couple years ago. So i was shocked i made a banger in Reason. Reason is like a motif rack for me in ableton i just use it as a sound module bc they are very good, along with various VST's.

u know what i noticed a bugg in the regroove and didnt like it cause of the fact the sliders dont move when the beat is playing thats wack i just turned back to reason4 more easier an kong is just a hassel more tools more time to think bout what you gonna use i like it simple , an reason 4 delivers..

I still have Reason 4 on my old studio PC. Anyone tried A/Bing your mixes. There is a difference from R4 to R5. R5 way clearer. Not just the 24bit library, alot of my beats are make with my own drumkits and samples.

Also more clarity in the mixing environment. I never read anything about them improving in these areas, don't know what could've been done, but huge difference.

Could all be placebo from the graphics being a little smoother looking, but I hear it in the bounced .wav files too. I'll never go back to 4 because of that.

Even though I always end up Loading Reason into Pro Tools for final mixes and they both sound the same after running thru PT to record a full song.

i'm not pleased w/ Record at the moment...not at all...

I can certainly understand this comment coming from more experienced users of audio software (and please don't mis-interpret me, I'm not many any assumtions).

I used Reason/Record for a couple of months have never owned a DAW before, although I have Music Theory and 10 years DJing Vinyl experience. Record gave me an excellent foundation in using 'DAW's and YES the SSL is stunning (one thing I do know is mixers)

In those few months I've started to notice limitations, namely quantising audio (unless I'm missing something)... whish is why I just ordered Logic 9 (nearly Live 8 Suite but I just don't like the look more than anything)

the slider do move if you automate them its obvious you have no clue as you what your talkign about. Kong is the most simple device in reason next to the redrum imo.

Dr Octo Rex - I still can't get one player playing 2 samples at the same time - anyone shed any light?

1. Go to Sequencer Mode
2. Create some lanes
3. At the top select the loop and assigned them to the lanes you want them in

heres a beat i made using reason 5. i am also rapping on it i dont have record unfortunatly so my vocals were tracked in reaper.

i used the premo drum kit for this just for fun.....just seeing what kong is all about.

the beat was mixed in reason... bounce to a 2 track then brought into reaper. the only thing i may have done in reaper that would effect the beat is throw a comp on the master buss just to "glue" everything together.

honestly i NEVER mix down my beats in reason. This was my first time. I almost always rewire reason into my daw for mixing.

i didnt spend a tremendous amount of time on this track. it was more of a just for fun lets see what i can do with R5 kinda thing.

Thanks for that... how about using it as a live instrument though? Triggering say a hit hat loop, keep that playing then introduce a beat, keep both those playing then introduce other parts... maybe just loop all the parts playing in the sequencer and map solo/mute buttons to midi?

i dont think that dr octo rex is capable of live sequencing.

seems like probably looking for Ableton live.
