You shouldn't even have to ask this question. I started with Cubase v5.0. When i switched to Digital Performer, I was in heaven. In fact, I even gave my copy of Cubase to a newbie on this board. Original disk, manual and all.

There is a reason why Digital Performer has been voted "Best Sequencer of the Year" 3 years in a row by "Electronic Musician" magazine. If you're on a mac, why would you use Cubase? One of the main reasons to buy a mac is so that you can use Digital Performer. Cubase is pretty much the only option for PC users. However we mac users have access to way better software, and Digital Performer leaves Cubase in the dust. DP is the best!!!

I realize i didnt' even tell you why DP was the best

    1) DP has a Branched History Undo feature, as opposed to a linear one. This means that any edit you've ever made is saved, and you can go back to it at anytime.

    2) Cubase has never had good MIDI timing. Digital Perfromer has the best in the industry.

    3) The native Plug-ins that come with Cubase really suck. The native Plug-ins that come with DP are really good. (I'd recommend getting Waves or Powercore Plug-ins anyway.)

    4) Digital Performer has a "Bounce to Disk" Feature, Cubase v5.0 doesn't. Say you want to bounce 4 tracks onto one. In Cubase v5.0 you'd have to export it and then import it again. in DP, all you have to do is set the settings correctly. This comes in handy if you have a track running a lot of effects that is using up too much of your processing power. Simply bounce the track with the effects and then delete the old track.

    5) The MIDI/Audio editing features of DP far surpass Cubase.

    6) Digital Performer is Pro Tools Compatible. You can save your projects in Pro Tools Format, as well as import Pro Tools Projects. This comes in handy if you're scoring movies where everything is done in Pro Tools.

    7) Digital Performer just looks better.

Mind you I'm basically comparing DP to Cubase v5.0. i don't have any experience with Cubase SX.

the only serious contender is logic but i think it's too cryptic and fiddly compared to DP3 and yes DP3's timing is the best I've ever seen....
