Well here is a sample i just made which i think sounds empty. Notice the panning on the 808 toms.
Guys try not to steal this sample honestly since i dont have a tag yet. But if you need to steal go right ahead lol

^ Your kick drum sounds almost nonexistent. Is it the sample or did you eq it to sound that way?
What are you using to make this? sounds like something is going wrong...
i eq'd it that way. i rarely use sampled drums lol

drums and vsts obviously lol.
sounds like something is going wrong? its probably the harp part throwing you off i didn't want this beat to sound predictable. i also made this like in 5 minutes to give you an example of what i meant by the instrumentals sound empty
The mix is just really weird, the kick has some weird distortion and is pretty soft the shaker thing sounds really electronic, the clap is really low and thin, the piano sound is ok but also a bit thin.
I think you've given a throw-us-off example because it's really self-evident in the way you've mixed the sounds; why it sounds empty.
I can semi-hear a harp, but it's not moving in a harp way, just sounds like a layer of fl rhodes or something.
Do you have anything which was not made in 5 mins?
I think you just need to think about the sound source because there are great VSTs and some really bad ones.
good sounds have presence by themselves and good programming, playing and use of effects can set off a good mix in the right direction, think you need some new sounds.
The melody is nice but the drums are, in my opinion, doing nothing to help, the rhythm is too sketchy, even just a simple, 'kate bush' deep kick and snare pattern would work better.
