There's no way to sample/record audio directly in Reason. However, some of the devices can load .wav samples - ReDrum, NN-19, NN-XT (this one only if you upgrade to 2.0) - so you can sample your stuff in any audio editor and then import into Reason.

If you are using windows, you can record into sound recorder or whatever it's called, should be in the accessories folder.
Most people use soundforge or cool edit to actually record the samples into their computers though.

I was maybe a bit unclear - you can well use samples in 1.0; the NN-XT device (which is basically just a beefed-up version of the NN-19) is an addition in 2.0, not all of them. The ReDrum and the NN-19 are capable sampleplayers indeed.

//edit: If you want to upgrade to 2.0 (which is, imho, worth the money), go to the Propellerhead site - the upgrade isn't free, but at least it's a lot cheaper than buying the complete 2.0. The update to 2.5 (new effects'n'stuff) is free for registered 2.0 users.

No need to move your samples into any specific folder - just use the "browse sample" buttons on the devices (note that this is different from the "browse patch" button) to find your sounds. You can also set up a couple of shortcuts to your most used sample folders in the preferences.
