i have the beat in the sequencer and just build the drums and stuff along with the beat. i usually make little marks for the verses, choruses, bridge intro, outro, etc so i can build my beat with more efficiency.

anybody ever heard of beat matching, bpms? anyone? anyone? dear god DJs?
Beatmapping has been around since before we were born. That's what a tempo is. That's what bars are. All of that goes together. Click... Click...Click....Click, same as 1...2...3...4. That= 1 bar of a 4/4 metronome tempo. If you are making abeat around a sample or vice versa, you always need to have the beats and bars counting instead of minutes and seconds. 1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8 = 1 bar of a 8/4 metronome tempo. Acid had an internal program called beatmapper, but it is off even sometimes, but it get's you damn close. I normally just trim the track at the front, place it in the sequencer and take a guess and keep changing tempos until I get it right from beginning to end. hit me up if u need more help.

This post and the one that deRaNged 4 Phuk'dup stated are the best tips I saw.Originally Posted by paradigm s

The other reason you take a 4 bar chop is you want the groove from the beat so your music matches the same feel so the vocals can groove to your beat in the same manner.
Take the groove and use that to your advantage.
And d4p is on point!
