I just go thte Philharmonic joint by IK and I love it. I don't know if its better than the NI one I haven't used it but I really like the IK guy. IK is also doing a group buy right now for $200 you get all 5 of their workstations. I think they are doing 50% off individual ones too but I am not sure on that. Anyway its worth checking out. Go hit IKmultimedia.com for more info

i own both philharmonic and NI session strings...

NI session strings are for a small setting/interment string arrangement and not full blow orchestra stuff... it also has more features i.e. articulations, key switching, etc... philharmonic does not have articulations, key switching, etc... but have more variety as far as orchestra sounds go... i.e. french horns, trombones, etc... plus... it has section patches too... i.e. woodwinds and brass combos...

NI session strings -vs- Philharmnonic... i would have to give Philharmonic the nod... more variety in sounds/patches... if you take a sound/patch add eq, tone control, cvsreverb (not sure if this is the name but the last item on the drop down effects list)... you can get some nice results... Philharmnonic is light on the CPU always...

plus with the group buy... you are basically paying $40 for it... cant beat that also...
