Whats the best Synth for Hip Hop beats?

    Hi Peeps

Im currently a bedroom dj and producer using my pc - ie..cubase, logic and f.loops.

im interested in a more hands on approach.

I have had the Novation Nova 2 keyboard synth reccomended by a mate but what i can gather from this synth is that its more for dance and trance.

Alternitavly i was looking at the Novation K station as the bass is meant to be decent on this.

    i have approx £400 - $700 to spend.

    Can anyone help?

    Cheers

I'm not particularly fond of people asking which synth is better for style X or Y, as it has got more to do with the users knowledge in synthesis rather than the machine itself.
However the MicroKorg is seeing a lot of mileage in popular Hip Hop these days, and so is the Alesis Ion. Probably most used of them all is the good old Triton Extreme/Proffesional.

cheers for that mate, i know what you mean, when you say its down to the user not the synth but i dont want to buy a synth thats mainly used for trance.

ive looked at the microkorg to be fair so i may take it up and get one.

    Sound!

Aye, I was about to suggest that. I'm getting one myself, I'm after the Vocoder action on it. It's got very decent sounds at a very affordable price, although I've heard varying reports on the pads...

Hi, you mean the keys? hope so because i did read that the keys were small and toyish, but should be ok.......

Or does pads mean something completely different?

You have a hell of a keyboard there already. Of course all of the presets are geared towards dance, so why not learn how to actually program your own sounds? There are tons of resources available online for this. You can start here by reading Gordon Reid's "Synth Secrets" articles:

If you are looking for a new synth to compliment your SuperNova 2, I would recommend an Ion, an SE-1x, or an ATC-x.

sorry but im new to this, i can dj and arrange music on a pc but when it comes to synths, pads, and all that im stumped.

really i wana make all my sounds and arrange them all by using my synth through either cubase or logic as tryin to arrange a beat and loop using a mouse is bloody frustrating and u dont really feel the warmth of playing the key to your beat.

    hmmmmm.

im gona b in my house for months.

    Cheers Dude!!
