I'm looking to get a MIDI controller, one with either 25 or 49 keys. What I want to know is there any significant difference when it comes to how many keys a MIDI keyboard has performance wise? I've never played the piano in my life and I don't have a clue about notes and **** so I thought it would be a good idea to get something smaller till I learn by ear how the notes go and move on to something bigger. so just leave your commentary and let me know whats best.

i would at least get a 49. Of course u can transpose with a 25 and get all the octaves, but a 25 will only limit you in the future. I feel that people who play on 25 keys are just making down south beats with like 3 notes in a song. Buy a at least a 49 or even a 61, and start to learn something about scales and chords. trust me, your beats will get better and better once you grasp the basics of piano.

def get a 49 at least. but if you start off with 25 keep it. use it later as a dedicated second controller.
