    hey there

As you now you can buy a Yamaha RS7000 - new - for about 1400 usd/euros

and with the same money you have another options

korg electribe ES1 - sampler (ebay 300usd top)
    rm1x - sequencer (ebay 350usd top)
    new emu's xk6 keyboard - new - (600usd top)

    agree with MII.
better forget about the ES-1/Rm1-X setup.
not only you have 3 pieces of gear to carry around but the ES-1 has a latency and makes only sense if used as a module, standalone or lined up to the other tribes (as master).

also remember with MPC you HAVE to have sample material AND a SCSI device if you don´t want to load/import and backup with floppy´s; besides it has NO synth engine...

    i´d go RS too.

hmmm... if was looking to Spend 1200 and accomplish what the three pieces you listed would accomplish i'd go

    Emu XL-7 @ $700

$100 more than the XK-6 same sounds more features and it would eliminate the RM1-X from your list and open finances for a better sampler...ie an emu rack e4k ultra would enable you to burn roms for the XL-7

    http://www.emu.com/products/xl7/index.html

The price dropped by 300 on these a couple of month's afta i picked up my xk-6.

though i love the XK i'd rather have the XL now that they are only 100 apart instead of 400 (mutter)

another thing to keep in mind is that the Emu/Ensonique camp has yet to replace the ASR-X.

I don't see it hard to imagine that with the success of their current groove tools etc that a new sample/synth/production center is in the works.

I'm thinking ASR-X meets MP-7/XL-6...i'm holding off on purchasing a sampler for this very reason.

    Late,

    oh...
I got so emotive with the thanx that I forgot a question...hehe
    What is latency?
I didn't understand you that part of "the es-1 has latency so makes only sense if used as a module..."
with a friend we were planing to use a karma with an Es-1 as a sampler/sequencer...so do you think it will work?

    latency

latency can be subscribed as a (MIDI)delay, so all stuff
sequenced with the ES-1 sequencer if MIDIchained will
be late-- think it was 0.25ms, but don´t catch me on that!
if you open a (MIDI)track on your Karma wich is reserved
to only the ES* then it will work. ES-wise you have to tell
the unit wich sample shall be triggered by wich note/key from your Karma.
that´s what i ment by usage as a module.
*you may even trigger Karma TG with the track also if it fits
so there´s no limitations in creativity.
you may also use the Audio-IN-chain to effect stuff with ES efx or put it on the ES´s Audio track and sequence the incoming audio...

    just be creative
