    roland synth for midi?

i have this kinda busted roland jv-90, some of the buttons don't work, whatever. but i'd like to use it as a midi controller for reason4. i have the cables and i have an m-audio firewire410 which has midi in/out. i also have a simple usb-midi interface which may make things easier.

do i have to program the keyboard to send midi messages, or can i just hook up the midi out on the keyboard to the midi in on the box and expect leds to flash on the midi interface? (cause they don't)

im not sure if thats asking for one in a million who knows that roland in particular or if its a pretty standard thing...

    any help i'd love it

You might have to do some settings on the keyboard, but most do send *some* MIDI out by default.
