I think he was talking about the Motif XS, not ES ... and there is quite a difference.
On the XS the "to Host" connection is for connecting to a computer for MIDI and other control data. It does NOT act as an audio interface. The "to Device" USB connection is for attaching things like USB hard drives, memory keys, etc.
There is a M-LAN connection availble as an option on the XS6 and XS7 models, which is standard on the XS8 ... this allows you you to send multitrack audio as well as MIDI and other control data over a single FireWire cable.
The XS series also has a ethernet connection ... not a lot is known about its capabilities, but they should at least include storage to PCs, etc.
