strickly going for price and performance, the mpc2000XL will probably be the best. mpc 4000 is a little overprice if you need other gear (such as a synth).
mpc3000 is overpriced too(new ones are limited edition or buy from japan or used), personally i cant justify purchasine a used 3000 for nearly the price of the mpc4000.
and the mpc2000 lacks in features.
some say things about differant groove between the 3000 and 2,4,xl but thats a matter of opinion and preferance i think it matters what your use too.
I like new, i bought mine at www.shreveaudio.com for 1049. Just call and say i was quoted that the other week and theyll give it to you.
if you dont mind used and like 12bit phat sound, a mpc60 or mpc60II is extremely cheap on ebay, plus with the upgrade kit, it works like the mpc3000.
if you plan on sampling absolutely all of your sounds and do not need a synth or just have the cash, go with the mpc4000.
just my thoughts. btw this is all my opinion, and heavily motivated by price factor
peace

I agree with everything boneslicer said. I think price is a factor with all us up and coming producers. If u have the dough mos def shoot for the 4000. But 2000 XL would be your best bet. It will be very difficult to find the 3000 and 60 and u take the risk of buying a defaulted machine since you can only buy them used. But thats not to say they arent GREAT machines!.. You can't really go wrong with either.. check the specs.. it basically comes down to preference and budget. Peace-1!
I see your fear. I see your greed. Only when I plunge... will you see me. Prick.
yea totaly agree with first reply. dont need to add summin on it
