Midi Keyboard Fader and knob question.

    Hey guys,

Thinking about buying a midi keyboard with knobs and faders, but have a quick question. For the knobs and faders, when switching from different vsts, will the parameters jump values since the faders are at a set value on the keyboard? Say you have the fader at the minimum value when controlling one vst, then you switch to another vst. Will the value on the vst stay where it is or will it snap to the value of the fader? I was watching a demo of the Akai mpk 61 and saw that there is a preview button so it doesn't snap values when switching. Is there a similar feature for the Novation 61sl and the M-Audio Keystation Pro?

    Thanks in advance.

No generic default behaviour on this - depends on the controller in question and more likely the DAW software being used. In most situations snapping to the values/positions of the physical faders & knobs would mess things up immensely when you just want to look at a track. I'm a Live user so I'll just tell what it does to give you some reference. There's three selectable modes for each control: "takeover" simply snaps to the knob/fader value as soon as you move it (this would be closest to the "insta-snap" behaviour you described); "pick-up" waits until the knob "passes by" the current value and the starts adjusting and finally there's a "value scaling" mode which simply scales the parameter range so it picks up instantly but goes in sync with the knob's range. It's been a while since I've used any other DAW so can't really remember how it's done elsewhere.
